Hi. I have a Windows Phone (Lumia 920) and will be travelling to the USA from UK in a few weeks. Will the 'Here' Sat-Nav work automatically when I get to the US?

Yes, but best to download the maps you think you might/will need while still in the UK to avoid data charges.

Yes, however I would not rely on the POI database. It's perfectly competent for navigation though.

What is the 'POI database'?
I'm talking about the data they have of locations like restaurants, stores, etc. It just doesn't stand up to Google Maps.

POI is short for "points of interest" and you probably see it mentioned more in dedicated GPS units.

Ah, ok. Thanks, xandros. Do you knmow if 'Here' sat-nav works offline, or will it use data?

As long as you have the maps downloaded, it should use zero data unless you have it fetch traffic, etc.

Also, I am not sure if it is the case but I know some lower-end models from back then had a license to navigate in only one country but I have not heard of that being an issue for anyone. It doesn't apply to the 920 anyway, but I'm noting this for anyone else who may stumble upon this thread.
