Verizon 8X on AT&T MMS working?

Hello. I'm trying to get a newer Windows Phone to use on AT&T that they do not recognize as a smartphone because I do not want a data plan on that line. I don't want to argue why.

Has anyone tried it and been able to send and RECEIVE MMS (picture messages)? I just tried the Lumia 822 because I found one for very cheap and while they didn't recognize it, everything worked except receiving MMS. I just get a message from Unknown with "Message not found". I'm thinking Verizon has some weird custom MMS crap going on.

And if not on AT&T, has anyone tried it on any other GSM carrier and was able to receive MMS?

I don't know what setting you have access to, but the MMS settings for AT&T are:

Profile Name: AT&T MMS
MMSC URL: http://mmsc.cingular.com
Proxy: Checkmark
Address: wireless.cingular.com
Port: 80
GPRS: MEdia Net

I don't have an 8X. I want to know if anyone with one has tried it on AT&T and was able to both send and receive MMS. I already bought a Lumia 822 before confirming it works fine and it ended up not being able to receive MMS.

I'd like to know also. Just picked a mint condition up on ebay for $240 (an absolute bargin for a Verizon 8X). It's been shipped here on Tuesday. I hate ATT's mandatory data plan. I do have ATT iphone data plan. But like to carry 2 smartphones with me but don't want to pay for 2 data plans.

If no one replies by the time you get yours, could you PLEASE let me know the results you find? With the latest software, of course.

Try to configure the internet APN with an invalid one to block data other than MMS. I always do this by just making up an APN that doesn't exist such as "phon"

And configure the MMS APN correctly and then MMS a picture to yourself and see if it works.

This has always worked for me before other than the Lumia 822 where any incoming MMS is from "Unknown" with message "Message not found"

Windows Phone is very iffy with APN configuration though, I really don't know what is so hard about it. Every other OS has the ability to fully configure APNs.

You might need to download the HTC connection setup app from the marketplace.

I read online that with one firmware for the 8X the custom MMS APN setting that you can configure from the built in tools just doesn't save your configuration and with a different firmware that option is completely gone. But I believe the internet APN configuration exists and works correctly. You could try using the HTC connection setup app to configure for AT&T, then go manually set the internet APN to an invalid one.

I just found one on eBay for $238 in excellent condition. I bought it. I will report my results. If this doesn't work then I give up.

I will let u know. My verizon 8x is coming Tuesday morning. I won't get home till afternoon. I have both verizon and att service so will see what's going on with the APN.

Just got home. AT&T sim works on Verizon 8x. I currently have data block on one of my lines. So will have to re enable it. But so far the OLAM shows the 8x as an unknown phone. Which is a good sign.

But than again. I got busted with nexus 4 after 2 weeks of use with dreaded text warning about having a smartphone without data even though the OLAM showed it as unknown phone.

How about MMS? Or does that not work if you have a data block?

I have data block. I have to find my nano sim to micro sim adapter for my other line that does have AT&T data to check it out.

The above pic is the only option I get with the Verizon HTC 8X. I don't have an option for MMS settings.

I put my ATT iPhone nano sim (with micro adapter) into Verizon HTC 8X. I can get internet speeds 4-7 mpbs. But can't send or receive MMS either.

100% MMS works with my Verizon LTE microsim. But there isn't option for MMS with the APN configuration.

Have you tried the connection setup app HTC has in the marketplace?

Connection Setup | Windows Phone Apps+Games Store (United States)

Well crap it seems that people are having trouble with it on the Verizon 8X. I guess I'll have to just sell the 8X I bought on eBay. I got it for cheap though so I may make some money reselling it.

Yeah, just tried the connection setup. It gives me error about sim pin, or unable to read sim. The connection app isn't working. Cause I know my sim works cause I get internet and can make phone calls just fine with my ATT sim on the 8x.

I found this post and people think it's a firmware issue.

Not sure what I will do with the 8x. I have both Verizon and ATT service. I generally use my Verizon LTE sim in my Verizon LTE ipad cause Verizon cannot enforce SIM switching by disabling data like ATT. So I am in a little different situation than you. I like the phone. It's so much lighter than the Lumia 920 I had.

Kinda of sucks not being able to use MMS.

Well this just blows. Verizon really did a good job making their phones unappealing to those without Verizon service. I wonder why they didn't just lock them instead of intentionally crippling them like this. And what the hell is up with Microsoft making Windows Phone so stupid with APNs? Every other OS has full access to add new APNs for data and MMS, yet Windows Phone handles it extremely poorly.

HTC Connection Setup was pretty useless when I tried it. I have an imported, unbranded/unlocked HTC 7 Trophy from Germany. Here are my US carrier selections. Two of them don't even exist any more:

Interesting. On my Verizon Trophy there are 37 different carriers listed for the US. Still no Straight Talk or Net10 though.
