Video upload / Sharing Question

Got a new 950 with windows 10 on it. When I record video the size of the file is HUGE because recorded in Hi Def.

Is there a way when you share a video for it to convert it / compress it?

I do not see an easy way to accomplish this other than pull the video over to a desktop and running third party software.

Basically I just want to share some quick 1-2 min vids on youtube

thoughts?

Re: Video upload / Sharing Question

As a note...in win 8.1 phone if you took video and shared via messaging app...the os would automatically compress is into a *.3gp file.

Anyone else experiencing this issue?

You could also try Video Optimizer for WhatsApp. This app creates a reduced quality video big enough to be shared via WhatsApp's 15MB limitation.

Technically, anything higher than 480P is hidef. So 720p and up. Now, from experience with my 950, 5 minutes of 4K video is 1.36GB, which is pretty high.

If you are sharing to Youtube, why not upload the full video and let youtube handle the transcoding to other resolutions? unless you deal with small bandwidth caps.

Re: Video upload / Sharing Question

Not so sure I agree as the os "used" to do this on its own without needing an additional app.

Let's agree it is no longer a supported function but there are work arounds ☺

OK. After playing around with this all night I figured something out....the phone absolutely will render a video to be sent as a text assuming the video is less than "x"mb.

I have not figured out the sweet spot but recording in low res I was able to attach a 25mb file to a text that compressed down and sent through. FOr email I used movie creator beta to render for sending through email. Sent as 4 mb attached in stead of 25 mb.

So in short...yes you can attached videos. Be nice if the error message noted what size should be or offer to open an app to render smaller.

PS- The hi res video is truly awesome.

What exactly do you mean when you say hi-res? 1080P, 2K, 4K??? they are all "hi-res"

Haven't tried with the 950, but on Windows Phone 8 devices, normally up to 10 seconds of video can be sent via messaging, well with 1080P24 set.
