Volume control question

The way it seems to work for me is that I can mute the ringer/notifications by hitting the volume buttons and then tapping the vibrate icon at the top of the screen. Unfortunately, this does not mute apps/games. I need to turn the volume all the way down. This is a pain because I need to hold down the volume button until it reaches 0. Is there a quicker way to mute apps/games? I would like to see an enhancement where you can hold down the volume for 2 seconds and it automatically goes to 0.
