W10M - "Local search" issues

i've just updated from my lumia 920 to a lumia 950.

on my L920, after pressing the search button, i was able to type a search and jump between a heap of different options, one of which was local search.

on W10M its a pain as it only gives local results sometimes depending on what it thinks i'm after.
if i search for pizza, i get local pizza places.
if i search for police, i get no local option and just a general bing search.

any thoughts on a way around this?

There is no way around that. Cortana implementation in WM10 is half assed. Search results are only the bing mobile website.

If I ask Cortana "find coffee" I get a list of local coffee shops. At the bottom of the page is a Bing search link. If I tap that it adds other information about coffee to the search page. Doesn't seem too bad.

Completely agree that Cortana was "half assed". They also removed the "phone" search option in Cortana. I used that feature all the time to search for old text messages.
