W10M taking too much space!

I have a 8GB L730 running Build 10149. I am unable to update to 10166 as the updates fail to install because of low space in the device memory. The issue is that more than 5.5GB of the 8GB is taken by 'system' files, while most of the rest is through apps that can't be moved to SD. Is this normal for system files to take up so much space? Is there a way to free up some of the space taken by the system files? I've tried soft reset etc, but that hasn't worked yet.

Best to do a hard reset. Even if you have space, do a hard reset and begin from there.
