Honest to God, I may hunt down and smack the next person who says the Titan II is the "update" to the Titan. Stop being a smart@$$!

But seriously, here's my story about AT&T and the Titan...

I was previously on Sprint. I had the Mogul, Touch Pro 1 and Touch Pro 2, and then upgraded to the EVO because of the big screen, Windows Mobile was being killed off, and Windows Phone was nowhere near being ready yet. After a year with the EVO, I had grown sick and tired of HTC's Android updates breaking more than they fixed, so I checked out the Arrive when Mango came out. I'll be honest, I loved it with one small issue... the teeny tiny screen size (after adjusting to the EVO).

Fast forward to November. Around Youngstown, Ohio the Sprint network began crapping out more and more, and at Thanksgiving I took a trip to San Diego to visit my sister. I had virtually NO reception the entire trip. Amazon had their Penny-Phone sale, and the Titan was listed. The only issue... drop Sprint and move to AT&T. Now, I'm an IT guy, so I have to deal with AT&T literally every day. I HATE AT&T in the worst way, you have no idea. But, I said, AT&T services tend to work just fine, and I knew I could get out of the early termination for Sprint due to bad signal issues. So I pulled the trigger. Upgraded and moved for a total of $35... thanks, new activation fee surprise.

By second week of December (due to backorders), I had my Titan, and I was porting my number to AT&T. Everything was great. Everything about the phone was wonderful. I finally had my big screen back!! I knew about the screen lag bug with the "Surround Sound" feature, so I shut that off, and everything worked great. I was also getting occasional complaints about not being able to hear me, but the issue went away quickly... I just assumed I'd covered the mic or that it was a signal issue for a moment. No big deal, I thought.

Months went by and it was fine, but I was largely disappointed in the lack of firmware updates to fix glitches that I was starting to see reported, and no WP7 updates of any kind, and I can't say for sure if it's HTC or AT&T or both at fault. Around April, though, my phone started having issues...

First, it was my wifi connection randomly deciding it wasn't going to connect at all. It would work fine for a while, then just stop, and only a reboot would fix it. Then my headphone jack started flaking out, and the cable would have to be just right to make it work (and I replaced the cable 3 times, before confirming it was really the jack and not some other issue). On top of that, my phone began rebooting itself randomly... not often, just 1-2 times a week. Oh, and that occasional "I can't hear you" issue was now a frequent "I can't hear you" problem.

Frustrated, I looked at the Lumia 900. Ooooh I wanted it bad, but I kept waiting on it to see what was going to happen with WP8. No way was I going to pay full price only to get screwed again. So I waited.

Tango gets released... STILL no updates from AT&T or HTC. But I see Tango for the Samsung and Nokia phones, so now I have to assume it's HTC at fault more than AT&T. Now I'm aggravated, because I've been fooled by HTC for a long time. The Mogul was decent but underspeced. Touch Pro 1 was underspeced and had lots of software and hardware issues. Touch Pro 2 had great hardware but again lousy software. EVO had lousy software that just got worse. Now here I am again with an HTC phone that gets no attention and has lots of software issues... and hey, there's a trend here!

This is my last HTC phone. Clearly they're too oversaturated on new handset development to bother going back and fixing their software issues. Their hardware isn't exactly top notch either. If they'd scale back development to a few models per year, and fixed their software issues... they could be kings of the world. I doubt they'll do it, so I'm done.

Nokia is looking pretty good, and you know why? Because they're desperate to survive right now. They're going to do everything they can to make sure customers are happy and coming back for more and telling all their friends to come on over too. Well, it's working. My next phone will almost definitely be a Nokia.

As for Samsung, great devices and support too, but I don't like the "cheap plastic" feel of their lineup.
