What do you recommend? Lumia 520 or 625 for a non techie father...

Hi,

Need some advice from the WP community.

My father only uses a pre-paid phone. Cost is a factor (he is a retiree), but still wants to be able to have a camera on the phone an check email via wifi. As a result I gave him a Nexus 4 (bought outright).... which he just lost. :shocked:

He isn't that technical, he will learn but I think Android was a difficult platform to learn on as there is so many options available to him.

As a result, since he uses windows as a desktop computer, I wanted to get him on the Windows Phone 8 platform. I think it will be a more simple OS for him to use. But cost is a factor as he might lose it again and he won't be using all the features phones provide.

So the two devices under the $200 mark I could find are: Nokia 520 and 625. Any suggestion which one to go with? I've added a poll, but if you have any comments please add them.

I think 625 will be a better option..the reson I am saying this - its camera is better than 520 which is also complemented by a flash .as your dad wants a CAMERA phone

I'd say go with the 625 just for the larger screen so it's easier to see things on the phone for him otherwise the phones are identical in every other way

I have 520 and its enough for me though i dont play games at all,solid camera for daily use(at night pics are not so good),no flash. I am very,very satisfied. For mail,surfing,ocassionally games,whatsapp,viber etc...there is no better phone on the market for this price!!
I recommend it.

520 has no front camera or flash, and the 625 has both, along with a few more features that may not get used. They both have an FM radio that can be used when headphones are plugged in as well.

I would probably go with the 625 as its camera has a flash, but if that won't really be an issue, head for the 520.

The 625 in general is a superior device, with a larger battery (non replaceable however) and has some more features such as a flash and LTE connectivity. The camera in either device won't blow people away, but they work.
It also is much larger with a 4.7" display, (same resolution though) which can be a plus or minus.

But the question becomes, is the improved feature set of the 625 worth the markup over the 520? I probably would think so, depending, but do take the risk of your father losing the device into account.

Just to add to the discussion:

Lumia 520 is 174.99
Lumia 625 is 199.99

There is a $25 difference in the devices. I'm leaning towards the 625, but I wanted to make sure there isn't a "Oh don't get it because of..." comment I should consider.

I think L625 is better one because u will get 5mp camera with flash...
Front camera of .3 mp...
processor of 1.2 ghz...
&also the gift card from Nokia...of $25...but if you buy 520 u won't get $25...(and i tried the gift card on my lumia 625)so,u can buy apps from store.....
&I'm using L625 it has 4.7 inch screen after upgrading to WP 8.1 u will get 3rd column too...
...so my advice is to buy...u know what I mean...

I'd say the 625 as the size will definitely be a pro for your dad as well as the camera since the 520 doesn't have flash.

520 . Cheap and best if you are giving it to non technical person who only uses phone for basic purposes like calling , texting and email .
