whatsapp not opening

updated whatsapp for luminia 520 recently but the application is not opening...when i open it it returns to the main screen

Have you tried a soft reset? (Power + Vol Down for 6 -10 seconds until vibrate and manufacturer boot screen comes up)

If that does not work, try uninstalling WhatsApp and reinstall it from the Store.

Also, which version of Windows Phone are you running? I hear that if you are running the Windows 10 Mobile Insider Preview, it can be quite common on 512MB devices.
