Windows Central Question

Old intel i7 930 2.8GHz overclocked to 3.8GHz
12GB DDR3 1600MHz RAM OC'd to 1800MHz
AMD Radeon HD 7870 OC'd from 1000 to 1250MHz
MSI X-58 Pro-E motherboard SATA2 (3GB/sec)
Samsung 850 EVO 250GB SSD (Windows 10 Pro)
1TB WD Raptor (storage)

My system is old. I realize that. The weakest link of course, is the old SATA2 motherboard and the locked processor. I've tried to keep it alive by upgrading it over the years. I originally thought the pops and clicks in the audio were due to my pc being too old and slow, so I finally got around to overclocking it. But the noises persist.
I'm using Cakewalk Sonar Platinum with an external, Focusrite audio interface (latest drivers) and an Akai midi keyboard controller.
Even if it is time for a new machine, I still need to know how to eliminate ALL but the most crucial system things.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
