Hi all.

I'm in need of some help, story is pc world here in uk have written off my old laptop and I have now got ?600 to spend on a new one but not sure what to get. Think I would quite like a touch screen one but I've not used windows 8 yet as I stuck with windows 7.

Please would some one have a look here on this site and give me an opinion on what to get.

Thanks for the help

It's kind of hard to help you without outlining what it is you do with your computer. Do you need something just to use? A computer that does mostly everything or a powerhouse?

With ?600 you sitting in the i5 and scratching the surface of the i7.

For example something like this - LENOVO G50 15.6" Laptop - Black Deals | Pcw

Would more than suit most people but this is an older i7 and the battery life as you see is poor.

So questions:

What drives do you need? Hard drive size? RAM? Display? What do you use your laptop for?

Thanks for the reply, mainly use it for web, office, making cds, I do use adobe audition quite alot, syncing my phones contents, the kids play some games but nothing major heavy and storing lots of photos and music.

Just looking to get the best spec one I can, was thinking of a touch screen laptop but didn't know when win 10 comes out it would be necessary but wouldn't a touch screen make it more future proof?

Might wait till just after Xmas and wait for sale.

Are you saying an i5 would be no good? I understand that there is always going to be something better but just the best overall specs that would be a little more future proof if that makes sense.

Thanks again

No I'm saying the i5 should suit you just fine if you're not into high end graphics programmes.

In most cases an i3 would suit most people and if it wasn't for the photo editing I would suggest that but since your budget is around ?600 a good i5 is a perfect machine for you.

As for touch screen. Not sure what to say here. I think you can get by without one but I've heard that having one is great. Not sure how touch will be utilised on W10 and if you don't have touch W10 will optimise for without it if my understanding is correct.

Highly recommend either cloud storage or another drive (like a NAS) as backup for your personal stuff. Portable USB drives are great but not ideal for backup drives, except in emergencies.
