Why aren't my emails managed via outlook.com syncing properly between my iPhone 4 and desktop?

emails managed via outlook.com doesn't sync properly between iphone 4 and desktop.

I have my own domain whose emails I manage on outlook.com. I want these emails to be sync'd between iphone 4 and desktop where i look at the emails using outlook.com. Some times emails are shown on both, sometimes only on desktop, sometimes only on iphone.

I can't use the outlook.com app as it doesn't work on iphone 4 as it doesn't have iOS 8.

Any help gratefully received.

We're really familiar with Windows Phones here at WindowsCentral, but not so familiar with iPhones. However, we have a sister site iMore with many friendly and helpful iPhone experts.
