Why aren't Windows apps working on unactivated?

Windows apps not working on unactivated

I installed windows 10 on my laptop but couldn't activated it. The mail, people and messaging apps don't work. Is this because it isn't activated or because of something with the operating system?

Yes, it is because it's not activated and as it is not activated you will not be able to access quite a few settings either.
