I know I can just download a standalone install file, but I try to understand how that even happened?

A.U. is released by waves. Till now, 25% of Win10 desktops in the world received that.

You can simply force it using Windows Media Tool.
That's exactly the same identical process of the normal update, you don't even need any dvd or usb key, it works when you are inside windows and you are working with it.
And the download gigs are the same (more than 3 GB for 64bit version)

Take it easy and dowload Windows Media Tool and launch it
