Why can't I enter phone numbers in my contact list?

Why can't I enter phone numbers in my contact list

My contact list currently displays email addresses only - cannot find a way to enter the phone numbers to existing contacts so cannot use as a phone without manually putting numbers in from a piece of paper!!!

Please join and confirm the following in this thread.

1) which phone (model, oem name) you are having this issue on.

2)which operating system is it running, I.e windows phone 8.1, windows mobile 10.

2a) if the latter, are you using a insider build?

If so which build?

If you go to settings then about you will see all the above info.
