check settings > system >notifications to see if mail is enabled for notifications
Secondly, open the mail app and check the settings in the mail app. Open mail app, tap the 3 dots, go to settings > notifications. Both have to be on
Thirdly though only try this if the first two steps haven't done anything. Enable mail to run in background
