Why can't I install apps manually onto my Lumia phone?

why can't i install manually apps to my lumia phone

it is much easier to install .xap files on PC and install them on phones, but not every app i transfer into phone through USB is shown in store under "install Local apps" in store. i looked into other discussions also but i didnt find them helpful.

please help

Currently the ability to manually install apps isn't available if you're on windows 10

Currently I am not using windows 10.. But I think I found out the solution.. Instead of installing .xap format I downloaded APPX.. Which is working for now..
