Why can't I text to a contact phone number?

why cant i text to a contact phone number

I have just bought a lumia 535 I can phone email but I cannot seem to find how to text to a phone number?

There's two ways to do this:
1. Find the contact in People, tap their name and then finally tap sms to text them
or
2. Go to Messaging, hit the + and find the name you wish to text to.

Before you do all of that, make sure that you have contacts with phone numbers, at least.
