Why can't I voice activate Cortana on my windows phone 8.1

I have had no problem in the past activating Cortana with my voice. However today, when I try to voice activate Cortana, I am switched to websites detailing what the app is. I have tried turning the app off and then turning it back on, but it doesn't resolve the issue. I have had this phone for a year and this is the first issue I have had with the app.
