Why Can't the Lumia 535 Record 720p Video?

Re: Official Update for those still with Touch Issues

@Pete
I know i am offtopic and i am sorry for that but can you ask why the 535 cant capture 720p video even though snapdragon 200 supports it?

I believe they locked it for marketing reasons but i may be wrong.

Recording in 720p is possible on the SD200, but most manufacturers (even those using android) will limit the resolution to FWVGA. This is because the frame rate is erratic when recording at 720p, and usually hovers around the 10-15fps range, which would result in a very choppy video. The normal fps range for smooth video is 24-30fps, which can only be accomplished at FWVGA or lower res on the SD200.

That's weird while my 625H can record 720p with S4.

625H has same SoC with 520

Even 625 can do 1080p

I've moved these posts out of the original thread into a new one. Please carry on here.

The SD200 is not as powerful as the S4 soc in the 520 or 625, despite having more cores.

The adreno 302 GPU is also far less powerful than the 205 in the S4, which probably contributes to the low frame rate issues.

I have the same issue, although I'm not using a Lumia 535, I'm using a WP device with SD200 quad core(local brand). And it can't capture nor playback 720p video. Although I can play 720p video when using SW decoding (Moliplayer) so I think there is an issue within the OS.

one can look at samples from the HTC Desire 500, a Snapdragon 200 Android phone, to get an idea what it's like.

It's kind of a shame they went with so low powered quad cores in the low end devices. Seems like a more powerful dual core would be the better option in that market.

Well, you know, low end devices have low end hardware.
