Why do shortcuts lose their icons when dragged from desktop int folders?

I like to have a Games folder on my desktop, and a Computer Maintenance folder. Often when I send apprpriate shortcuts to the desktop and then drag them into these folders, the shortcuts lose their customized icons that are associated with the app or program. The just appear within the folder as wh\\empty whit rectangles.

Is there any way to have these shortcuts reacquire their intended icons while remaining in a folder?
