AT&T SIM Card question

I have an ATT sim card that came in my Lumia 920 in 2012. When I put it into my Lumia 640, I got a message saying that I should go the the ATT store to get a new sim that will enable additional features. I really didn't have time to do that, so I figured I would just keep using the one I had.

I updated my 640 to Windows Phone 10 and the sim worked fine for a few days, but now the phone seems to lock up every time I go from wifi to cellular data.

Does anyone have any experience with this? Do I need to get a new sim? Is this a sim problem or a Windows phone 10 problem?

Yes. Make sure you go to a corporate store to take care of it because it'll be free. Go to one of those neighborhood stores and it will cost a few bucks.

I don't but in technology years, a 2012 sim was developed when dinosaurs roamed the earth.
Ha! And I thought they were just making them smaller!

I'll get to the ATT store this weekend and get a new sim. Until then,I am going to put W10 on my 920 and put the sim back in it.

Re: AT&T SIM Card question

Most likely it is to support VoLTE or HD Voice as AT&T brands it.

Thanks for that info...

So I upgraded my 920 to WP10 and put the sim back into it. I am not getting the lockup issue that I had in the 640 as it switches from wifi to lte (and the 640 is no longer showing any issues since there is no sim in it). Now, my question is, will a new sim fix the problems that I had with the 640 and will the new sim still work properly in my 920?

Re: AT&T SIM Card question

I'd bring both phones to the AT&T store and make sure before I left what the real world answer is for each question.

Keep us updated. Others will want to know.

Re: AT&T SIM Card question

Just to update my situation...

I ended up doing a hard reset on my 640. When I put the same SIM back in, I did get the message about getting a new SIM to enable new features, but I have not had the errors or lock ups that I experienced earlier.

Eventually I will find time to get to the ATT store and get a new sim, but I can live with the status quo for now.
