Why does OneDrive consume 1+ GB of local storage?

I was just looking at OneDrive in Storage Sense. The app is a little over 15 MB but it has 1.5 GB of data. Seems odd for online storage to consume that much local storage. Anyone know why? Is it cached uploads/downloads? More importantly, any way to reclaim the space?

I would assume cached thumbnails, and other important items...
