Why hasn't Cortana been sending my text messages from my PC using my phone

I use a Lumia 950 and an HP Spectre x360 with Windows 10 Mobile and Windows 10 installed on them, respectively. I have been using the feature of sending text messages from my PC using Cortana. Since December, this feature has been working flawlessly. It takes a few seconds before I am notified on phone that the text has been send and I can see the same as sent in my Messaging app on the phone. However, since yesterday, this feature has not been working. I type/dictate my message to Cortana and even though on the PC it gives me the notification that "I will send your message using your phone," it neither sends the same nor am I notified on the phone that it has been sent. Any particular reason behind that?

Maybe she's annoyed with you? :winktongue:.

Joking aside, are you using a insider preview build?

Yes, I am on the insider preview. I was wondering if the problem is specific to me or are the others facing it too. I hope they fix it soon though because sending messages from your computer is soo much easier.

It appears that it could be a bug, for instance yesterday randomly I stopped getting any notifications shown in my action centre along with any toasts until 10 minutes ago. I randomly started getting toasts and notifications showing up in the action centre.... which is bizarre as nothing changed.

My cortana problem too sorted out on its own within a couple of days without my intervention. However, my battery life has drastically deteriorated and I don't notifications for whatsapp messages any longer. I am on build 10586.164. The preceding build was a lot more stable.

Open Whatsapp time to time, same happened to me awhile ago with whatsapp.

When I opened the app it took a few seconds to load and soon after I got all the messages that were sent a few days prior and have been getting messages since then. I hadn't opened the app for 3 days.

Hi guys, I have used preview builds for ages and never managed to get Cortana to send an sms from the desktop.

I am mow on the latest redstone build on both mobile and PC, and decided to het to the bottom of this, but there is not much om the web.

In my case when i type "send sms" i see the app found, clicking on Send SMS gets Cortana thinking for ages, and i end up with a web result.

Both, the phone and the pc are setup to send amd allow sending from Cortana. I get a missed call notification on the PC, but pressing Text Reply crashes Cortana.

Any clues, anyone had this before ?

Thanks in advance

I just tried it on my Surface Pro 3 and Lumia 950, both on production builds and it works. Maybe something with the fast track. You should send feed back to Microsoft.

Interestingly enough, I found what the issue was.
My setup is a bit different to a regular user.
I am accessing my desktop main PC via RDP from my laptop running win 10 as well. So the issue is partially related to remote desktop.
I have noticed that I had no microphone on the remote machine , and even typing "send email" was doing nothing. Even though I don't use voice on remote PC Cortana, it seems to need it to work.

So, the solution was to enable "remote audio recording" in my RDP session. Pretty random😁
