Why I'm not able to toggle my phone screen brightness?

Whenever I'm toggling my phone screen's brightness(eg: from low to med),it's not affecting the actual screen's brightness.

Note: I'm using new lumia 640xl.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

If your phone is new, you may want to bring it back to the store immediately and have it replaced, claiming hardware malfunction - demonstrate the issue to them and insist on having the unit replaced.

Try going to Settings > display > brightness profile.
If you couldn't change the brighness levels from there, than you should go to the CARE.

I believe the brightness profile is actually under Extras > Display. You can adjust the brightness of each setting, Low, Med, and High. For some reason, low was set brighter than med on my 640 until I changed it.

My 920 is the same, but there is no brightness profile option in which to change it. I've reported this, but no response.

Hi!

Now on Windows Phone 10 is not the same path as on 8.1.

Go to "All Settings" > "Extras" > Display: There it will show you the 3 options of Low, Medium and High brightness and you will be able to scroll down a bit more or up for the 3 options and "create" your own version for each of them controlling the luminosity.
