If I'm not mistaken weren't they already sued over this not too long ago? It's collecting several times per day

I'm guessing you're referring to the location icon. I've noticed that too, but I'm not sure if its an app or the OS.

What is being collected? How do you know whatever is being collected is being sent home?

You see the location icon whenever an app requests your location.

If your location services is turned off then no data is sent.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

That's how its supposed to be. After the 2nd or 3rd 8.1 update I catch it doing this very often

And aside from turning it on maybe twice for no more than a minute to use the map, I made sure each time to turn it off, since it I don't really trust it (although I'm sure nobody has any real privacy anyways with any smartphone) and it wastes battery anyway. Despite being positive its off, I always check whenever the location icon pops up just to confirm I left it off - which it always is off
