Why is my phone going nuts today?

I'm on T-Mobile with an unlocked Lumia 830 (RM-985). Email is acting funny, text is acting screwy and keeps crashing, even my call history is only showing up when it wants to. And the live tiles for these things aren't acting as they should either.

This is the first time this has ever happened with almost a year of use. I tried a soft rest but it didn't help. Feels like something that would be a Windows Phone-wide issue but I wouldn't know why exactly. So weird.

Anyone else having issues today?

Never really had long-term usage issues here, but what I would do is back up stuff, media, take out the card and erase the phone - starting from scratch. Unless you have some underlying hardware issue, it'll fix your problems probably.

Thanks for the response. Looks like I'm the only one having these issues. It literally all happened overnight. Woke up this morning and the phone was being weird.

I'd really like to avoid a hard reset if at all possible. I'll do it if I have to though. Maybe I should give it 24 hours to see if it sorts itself out?

Anyone RM-985 owners having these issues today?

Dude you posted literally the same thread again. I've merged them.

Of course, if you want to wait it out, cant hurt.

However if it keeps it up, I'd try another soft reset or two but probably hard reset.

My 985 on ATT hasn't caused any problems yet.

I figured if it's at all phone or variant-specific more 830 users would see it here, sorry if that was a problem. Alright, I'll wait and see what happens. Thanks again.

I have a 985 also on ATT - no issues, like that.

For the past few days, VVM won't store my password, which is annoying as heck. I've called ATT, and they claim to have fixed it.

I am wondering if you are having a cellular data issue. Is the IMEI from your phone on file with your account at TMO? That sometimes causes issues spontaneously.

If I were you, I'd back up immediately though, because a factory reset could be in the future, and you don't want to lose anything.

Thanks for the info. Maybe it's not a network issue then. I don't believe my IMEI is on file with TMO. I don't remember ever giving that to them, and I bought the phone through the Microsoft Store.

I did just find out that there are some Microsoft account issues today, specifically with Outlook - https://downdetector.com/status/outlook. I wonder if it's related, because all non-native apps seem to be functioning as they should. On the other hand, if that was the case, I'd expect at least one other person on Windows Central to be reporting problems.

I don't know why this would just suddenly be happening unless it's an issue unrelated to the phone itself. I'll prepare mentally for having to hard reset though, just in case :(

I am also having problems with outlook today. It seriously just started this morning too. Texts are acting weird as well. Everything was pretty smooth before today.

Running 10512 on HTC M8

Thank you! Sucks you're having problems too but it's a relief to know I'm not the only one. The problems all started this morning, randomly. My 830 was flawless before that. Non-native apps work just fine, so that should rule out any sort of hardware problem. Still having issues as of tonight but I'll try to wait it out.

Please keep us updated.

You're on W10 then? I'm still on WP8. But I've been reading online some people are having problems with various Microsoft services today, so it's likely not OS related.

Trying to copy files over to my PC in order to reboot and the PC isn't even reading them -_-. The problem has to be from the phone's side. This is terrific...

Edit: Was able to get the files onto my PC using an SD card reader. Worked fine, which tells me the issue isn't the SD Card.

I'm about to hard reset... think I need to erase/reformat the card too?

I find windows phone acts weird with low phone storage what is your phone storage also I had a SD card that made my phone act really weird so it could be the SD card have you booted the phone without the SD card

Since saturday my phone froze 1 or 3 times at day... and I have to reset it... algo sometimes going some lead me to an endless "loading" screen... the ****?
I've been using my lumia 830 for like 7 months now and everything was perfect... what is this?

RKOemerY - Thanks for the response. Seems like the SD Card was fine but erased it anyway when I reset the phone. All is well at the moment.

mildor - Doesn't quite sound like the symptoms I was having but something weird must have randomly happened to some Microsoft accounts late last week into the weekend.

I reluctantly did a hard reset of my phone, restored from backup, and so far everything is running like new. Might be your last resort, but the good news is that it should fix things.
