SB only booting when base disattached

Hi all,

I have the SB i5, 256 with dGPU now since 2 weeks or so and love it so far. But, since yesterday evening, the SB does not boot beyond the "SURFACE" sign right at the beginning of the boot process. I tried booting probably 10 times or so, with no success.

It only boots when I disattach the base and boot only the tablet part. When reconnecting tablet and base after it is booted, it work just as normal.

Is anybody else experiencing this or even have a solution.

Thanks a lot.

Re: SB only booting when base disattached

I wish I had an answer for you, but I have the same model (i5/256/dGPU) and I don't have this problem. I am, however, having a lot of weird issues with nvidia driver crashes since the 11/25 cumulative update for Win10 build 1511 (kb3120677). Once, I was playing a game and the whole screen went black (backlight still on) and the audio stuttering constantly until the system simply rebooted (was fine after that). The next time, I was resuming from hibernation and it locked up on the login screen (windows hello had just activated the camera) when it just blue screened with an nvidia driver IRQL_NOT_LESS_EQUAL error. System seemed to recover fine from both, but I've noticed that my rotation lock is almost always greyed out when docked in laptop mode. Weird (and annoying).

I would guess your issue might be hardware, but you say it works fine once booted and re-attached. Is the system recognizing the nvidia GPU fine in the control panel after you re-attach the base? I'd be worried about that. Perhaps there is something with the nvidia driver and the latest update for Win10? I'd be curious what others think.

Do you have a card in the SD slot .... I was having booting issues with a micro SD card adapter plugged in but the micro SD card wasn't in all the way and it was causing the surface not to boot

Sorry for the late response, but I found exactly the same. I was playing around with the SB while booting. It was not dependent on the USB Logitech connector, but when I was taking out the empty microSD adapter, the SB started up.

Thanks again. That solved the problem.
