Why is the Nokia Lumia 830 so expensive?

It might have the same exact h/w, that's cause you point it out, i have not really checked into it.

Let's make it easy for you to understand, a 1993 car model, a Sedan to be precise, might have some specs to it, and a 2014 hatchback might have almost identical specs to that 1993 model.

you'll get that 1993 model for X money-(put in your currency), and the 2014 model for X times 0.5 money-(put in your currency). Now, will you compare their more than similar specs in 2014?

The answer is a flat NO! The reason is simple, the 1993 model cost you 2X money-(put in your currency) in 1993, but you get the 2014 model in 0.5X money-(put in your currency) in 2014.

you should compare the price at the launch of a product, not after 2 years of it. It's only logical to do so!

and btw, FYI, the Lumia 830 has the slimmest OIS module, integrated NFC capabilities, a pure-view 10MP carl-zeiss camera with a f2.2 aperture, qi wireless charging and comes integrated with the best mapping systems you can get on a smartphone. The s3 on the other hand, maybe a flagship, but was a rather a ****ed up phone with one of the worst android UIs ever made!

Hope that clears and sums it up for you! :)

Clear as mud!

I think I would want the 930 faster, considering it is only $20 more lmfao..

That would be an interesting poll. I'm sure many would choose the 930 but I wonder what the percentage would be. It all boils down to whatever suits you best.

Personally I'd pick the 830 for its weight, battery, screen/glance, and SD capability. The beefed up processor and extra RAM in the 930 just doesn't translate into a big enough of an increase in real world speed from what I've seen. If the 930 ran everything twice as fast then that would be a different story.

Well i just bought the 830 knowing full well that the 930 would cost the same. A few reasons behind that but mainly SD card support, ips instead of oled, better battery life/removable battery. The only thing speaking for the 930 is the SoC, if the oled wasn't a pentile one then it could also be a bonus but it is.

I should perhaps explain that I live in a remote area and clod storage on the go is a no no, so big storage space is a huge plus. Since I don't game on phones ever I fear the need of the best SoC available is slim at best.

Expensive? Be it! I'll still buy it :D
Has anyone bought the wireless charging flip shell for L830?

It has the same CPU, Chipset and GPU as the Samsung Galaxy S3.
Has Microsoft given any explanation as to why they've priced it as double the price of an S3?

I would assume it's a much stronger product when it comes to build quality and of course the operating system has better usability, but does anyone else find it frustrating?

You're comparing the Lumia 830 with a phone that was released in 2011-2012? Build quality, technology, and vendors are different. Don't compare apples with oranges.

I understand what you are getting at, though the Z3 compact makes more sense.

830 to me is another Sega Saturn. Great device, yet irrelevant. An awkward fit for people already using 82x/92x devices. Lumia fans who own the 92x already will likely wait, and the 830 does not have as much potential with Microsoft's amazing advertisements and priorities. MS announced WP10 too early.. Yup, another Sega Saturn haha.

Hope there is a strong market for this device, but its a tough sell for a 'smart buyer'/current owner
The Z3 compact isn't a mini version of the z3 it is literally the Z3 in a more compact size. It's actually a smaller flagship where's the mini phones and 830 are midrange versions of their flagship counterparts.
I agree nokia should have put a snapdragon 800 however as a flagship it's supposed to show the best of windows phone and showcase the performance of the OS. The fact that the 830 uses a 400 demonstrates how windows phone can run at great speeds and flagship features with lower end specs. That in itself is amazing

Lumia 830 and 100 dollar android phones have similar specs, But the only reason its expensive because it is windows

Do those 100 dollar Android phones have OIS, wireless charging, HAAC mics, NFC, Glane, etc.? No. Same battery life? No. But are they ugly as heck in comparison and lack the 830's premium finish? Yes.

why did we have to resurrect this one year old thread that is pointlessly comparing Android vs Windows phones?
We are way past this with Windows 10 and new phones coming along sometime soon. Maybe a good idea to close this one.
