Why isn't my screen flashing on during calls (can't type in voicemail password)?

Screen won't flash on during calls (can't type in voicemail password)

I've had my phone for months and this has never happened before. I've already done a restart, soft restart and want to see if there's a solution before a factory restore.

I had a voicemail left for me, but when I went to check, I couldn't type in my password because the screen wouldn't turn on. I use the power button to see if I needed to do it manually, and it'll flash on for a second and disappear too quickly to do anything. This is repeated and the screen isn't responsive. This only happens during calls. I can not hang up prematurely either, I'll have to wait for the other end to hang up before my screen turns back on.

Sounds like there's an issue with you proximity or ambient light sensor. I definitely rather suspect this to be hardware than software related.

Clean the area around the proximity sensor really well... Otherwise it is a hardware failure that needs repair.
