Welcome to Windows Central.
Can you verify the actual resolution of the image by transferring them to your PC and then checking the pixel height and pixel width? Multiply the values for the pixel height and pixel width and divide the product by 1,000,000. Round off the resulting quotient to the nearest whole number. The answer should "2" if your camera was taking 2MP photos.
I'm suspecting that what you're referring to is the file size rather than the image resolution. File sizes are expressed in bytes, hence "MB". Photo resolutions are expressed in pixels, hence "MP". A typical 8MP resolution jpeg photo should be around 2MB in file size.
