Why Should I Buy Windows 8?

So I thought I would throw this out there to get personal opinions. I'm currently running Windows 7 on my Dell XPS 17 laptop (it has plenty of horsepower) and I can't complain by any means with how well it has performed for me. So my question is, is why should I upgrade to Windows 8? What benefits overall will it bring me?

I haven't personally been able to play with Windows 8 yet, but have seen plenty of videos, reviews, overviews, and etc... (And have Windows Phone 7.5)

But I'm just curious as to if people think this OS represents a revolutionary system in terms of performance, meaning I should buy Windows 8 and upgrade my laptop, or is this one I should wait out for say maybe two years, when it is time to buy a new laptop?
What is your guys thoughts?

Tonight I had to boot into W7 on my 2 year old desktop to use the BIOS update program. I have been using the W8 customer preview for a few months now. W8 boot/start times are so much quicker, along with the overall quickness of the desktop. On top of that the new start screen is great for the basics. All the apps available make the desktop less important. Once you get used to the navigation, the start screen is really fun to use. I will be buying a copy for my desktop, and I will be selling it soon to help pay for my Levono Twist.

Based on the consumer previews i have bought Win 8 Pro upgrade for my laptop and Win 8 for new installations for my new mini pc.
Win 8 is worth it.

If your primary machine is a laptop I would do it for $40 for the cold boot times alone. It destroys Win 7 for that and the fact that the OS uses fewer resources. The only problem I had with my Lenovo X200T on Win8 CP was that not all OEM drivers worked so I lost some custom button hardware functionality. I expect they'll get there though.

Well if you can find the Release Preview, I suggest installing that so you can have a personal go of it yourself.

But there are many cool features about W8...some may apply to you or not.

In all reality, W7 is perfectly fine. It runs great. It's well supported. It's largely bug free. There is really no NEED to upgrade for the average consumer. But if you really are drawn to the apps and social integration like on your phone. This maybe a cool upgrade. if you are looking for a tablet, there is no doubt W8 is the leading OS. For desktop or laptop upgrade, it's a matter of what are you looking for. It runs W7 programs, it has a better firewall, its quicker, my GF can "text" me from it:dry it's has the social integration, it's basically the future and for $40...give it a whirl

Performance, yes. User experience, definitely. Just do it. Updated my 9 year old Fujitsu notebook last night. Doing the office desktop today. Also receiving a new Asus i7 w/Win 8 desktop (fo home) today. Oh, and did I mention the SurfaceRT.

I played with the beta a little on a backup laptop. It's different. It seems like it's made more for a tablet than a PC, but I am not really use to it yet. It will take some time. For $40 it gives you something to learn and play with.

It's required to stay on this forum. Lol jk. Windows 8 works and looks like WP. For any WP fan it maybe worth upgrading. But you might want to get a touch mouse or trackpad.

Physical vs Digital Copy of Windows 8

Wow thanks for all the replies guys. And I definitely agree that it is quite cheap for an upgrade. I have been browsing around and am strongly considering giving it a whirl. Few last questions:

1) Do you recommend getting the digital download for $40 or is there any beneficial reason to get the (I think) $60 physical copy. (Say if I need to completely re-install the OS on my laptop) Is there any advantage to the physical copy. And do you always have access to re-downloading Windows 8?

2) I currently am rocking Windows 7 Ultimate and love its extra features such as language enhancements for keyboards and etc... I do a lot of switching between languages when typing (primarily Russian). Does Windows 8 Pro have the functionality to switch between keyboard languages?
