I just got this phone and it runs fine. However it makes me nervous with privacy always being an issue and such nowadays.

I can count and for one second the arrow above the WiFi signal is doing nothing and it starts for two seconds and stops for one second and repeats every minute of every day. It is using about 15Mb and hour with me doing nothing on the phone at all.

Is this phone recording everything I say and sending it to wild blue yander somewhere? I have never seen this issue at all and it is enough to make me question the device. Or is this some kind of normal thing that can be explained?

There's always info being transmitted. Whether it's data coming in to update your Live Tiles, such as news updates, email notifications, app updates for the store, location services, etc. Don't worry... it's normal! :)

I would agree that data is always being used if I had something that was using data on the device.

I don't do facebook or twitter. My email on msn is rarely used so nothing there. I read the bing news app at 3 AM and it still has the same news I read then. Accuweather would not update every second I am sure. The only other app I have put on this phone is a game that is offline without any purchases in app or whatnot.

So this phone is going to use 15Mb an hour or 10.8GB a month updating what? It doesn't seem right to me. I could see if I was a social junkie and had streams of info loading from different places but that I am not. I see nothing updating.

Thanks for the reply though.

You could try removing your email accounts and the game and see if it changes, or else disable the internet connection.

As said the device does maintain a connection though that is quite a bit. What is the game? I'm going to go on a limb here and suggest that's the culprit. I've noticed that games, even with no ads or whatnot, tend to dial home (or wherever) pin a regular basis.

I think this may be an anomaly or just a poor app - not necessarily nefarious.

This also highlights an issue with permissions. I trend to allow nothing to talk to the internet (unless necessary) - and, on android, I've used something called xprivacy to block all permissions. I hope windows 10 will give better permission control.

Oh, and have you looked at your data sense, in the app list. That tells you exactly what is using your data, and you can set restrictions etc. Better do that before doing what I set out above!!!
