Wifi not remembering password?

I've been having an issue with my WiFi. Seems like if I go out of range and return, it doesn't automatically reconnect and I have to re-enter the WEP key.

My old Optimus Quantum (WP7) was similar. It would remember the password, but seemed to prefer using the 3G network over WiFi. I'd have to turn data off so it wouldn't use it.

I found a way to work around this problem. I changed my network password from a WEP to WPA2. I'm not sure why that makes a difference, but it worked
