Will any microSD card work?

You can already buy SDXC up to 256gb. Here's a 128gb one on Amazon:

Amazon.com: Lexar Professional 400x 128 GB SDXC UHS-I Card LSD128CTBNA400: Computers & Accessories

I've seen micro ones around, not on Amazon US though.

Hope this guy didnt buy that card. People need to understand you cannot use SD cards in the Surface, only MicroSD cards. The HC and XC dont really matter, I have found both to be compatibled. Just make sure you are purchasing MicroSD of the size you want/can afford and you will be fine;

FYI: If you have been "messing around" with your microSDXC card with various format's (Linux, Mac, etc.) and you want to take the card back to default, the SD Association has a formatting tool for you:

SD Formatter 4.0 for SD/SDHC/SDXC

It comes in a Windows or Mac version. I HIGHLY recommend that if you use SD cards, that you download and use this tool when needed. Especially if you run into some weird issue with a SD card, use this formatting tool to try to clear up the issue.

I'm now using a SanDisk Class 10 32 GB microSD card in my 32GB Surface RT, it works pretty well, the file transfer speed is pretty high.
