Will apps finally be allowed to access audio/video on the phone?

Can some developer who's got the WP8.1 SDK confirm whether apps are allowed to access video/audio, or are they still kept private for some unfathomable reason? If such APIs are available, then we can look forward to WhatsApp (and other chat apps) quickly bringing better audio/video sharing. Sharing over WhatsApp is huge in India.

I can confirm , there are we API for video , but I do believe there is a file picker(similar to file manager ) so Microsoft must have added audio too.

I fear MS will restrict the "file picker" to not allow apps to view/access/share those types of files, which is why I'm asking.

They will surely allow WhatsApp to use , they recently gave special apps to upload and share videos , so why not audio

Why only whatsapp they should allow each and every apps to access audio and video..New users should not have a negative impact on WP

I hope it's now easier than ever to implement sharing of these files, otherwise we'd have to wait for another year for whatsapp to get special access to those APIs

since windows phone 8.1 isn't release to users , how can whatsapp use the new API and publish on windows phone 8 store ?
