will windows 10 help in app growth?

as we all know that windows has less number of apps and in the coming days many apps are being pulled off from the app store will windows 10 change anything and do you think that windows 10 will attract many developers and one day we will have as many apps as android and should i buy windows phone keeping these things in mind or not?

In the short term I don't think so. But maybe in 4-5 years, I see the gap closing.

MSFT has to find a way to entice Android and iOS developers so that they will port their apps to Window 10. Universal apps will make it easier for existing Windows devs to write once, run anywhere, but how will universal apps make Windows any more attractive to those other devs?

Have a look at windows 10..
On my desktop PC apps are nearly perfect integrated. I use apps and my normal pc usage together. I think its the right way.

The key thing that will make Windows attractive to devs are customers.

Having a larger market = more revenue potential.

Hence selling cheap phones. Lots of them.

Also a secure platform is important where devs work is not ripped off. Like Android. So far Windows phone has this one covered.

There is a benefit of developing for Windows which is better returns. Less apps = less competition which means more revenue per device.

I agree, they need the app growth sooner. But to be honest I think he's right with his 4-5 years guess. I just don't see it getting on par for at least a few years.

Biggest thing to understand is the store on Windows Phone, Windows and Xbox are combing. That's a good hundred million people under one Store....

What apps are you missing?? Most of it is there.. but Wp is not that populair os.. When more people buy a phone with windows more apps will come.

No, I'm a core WP phone fans, i wanted to say yes, but it's unlikely

Take BOA for example ( such a b*tch btw) , do you think they will reconsider to put back the app because so both desktop and phones user can use it? My thinking is a no, because on desktop ppl already get used to go the website, they don't need an app for it, the desktop app for BOA is rather pointless, and you could extend this example for the rest.

at least in current years, an app for both windows and windows phone is a pointless idea, an app that go across iphone/android phone/desktop, however, is BRILLIANT idea because those 2 holds about 97% of ppl out there.

I don't think windows 10 can help wp phones, Cortana .. however,

I don't say Cortana will be a big success, but she's like an unidentified spieces for both iphone/android, a virtual agent that go across all platforms ( iphone/android/windows, notice neither siris nor Gnow is going across anywhere), because what she can do on desktop is really unknown for now, if WP could really surprise ppl with it, it might be a turnaround for them.

I said 4-5 years because experience thought me not be too optimistic. WP 8.1 was supposed to be the savior of the platform, to bring missing features and attract the masses. And in reality, the update didn't do so much.

Now Windows 10 is in the role of the savior. I am not saying it will be a bad update, but in the short term I don't think it will have a big impact. 4-5 years is a good timeframe for the platform to grow.

It could have been a lot better if people had a great selection of phones on all of the carriers to choose from. 10 gets Microsoft closer to it's goals... and should see more people using it provided Microsoft gets off it's asses and puts out some decent phones not just low end ones

For business, it depends whether MS follow through with something I read when Win10 was first announced about the ability for IT dept to lockdown a PC using Group Policy so no software can be downloaded & installed except from the Win App Store or the company's own custom apps. So for example you couldn't download Adobe Reader from adobe's website, you'd need the App from the App Store (which there is).

If MS take that line for business that want that kind of control (I would expect most if not nearly all) it would mean any application used by business would need to add it to the Win App Store. I would say it's a win-win-win, the developer doesn't have to pay for the data bills, MS get more apps, and business gets better controls!

Just depends whether MS take that route or not...

Definitely. Because globally most people use windows. As more people phase into winodws 10, people will get acquainted with the windows store, which will become a central part to programs and apps for the windows 10 platform. People will want apps on their phone on windows 10, and so traction will follow for developers. New and more apps will come.

But I hope also more high quality apps will come. For me there are already more than enough apps. But most are the same, e.g. a dozen or more clock, weather etc apps, but none that for example support a singl complete weather database experience. Every weather app seems to use a different weather database, and nearly all apps never show exactly the same weather data on a certain timepoint. Odd!
