Will windows 10 january tp run alongside windows 8.1?

I have windows 8.1 in one partition and earlier windows 10 builds in another partition and there is no problems. I read somewhere that the new win 10 January TP build does not install and says that the reserved partition is not updatable. is it true? and is it safe to install it along windows 8.1 from ISO?
