Windows 10 stuck on "preparing for the upgrade"

Its been like an hour and its still "preparing for the upgrade"

I used the MS media creation tool to burn an ISO to a dvd and the update worked like a charm This was on an old Dell OptiPlex 740 desktop which I was going to scrap, but Win 10 seems to have breathed new life into it.

Hi, I was using upload assistant and it got stuck at 99% preparation. I found a (Win. 7 to 10) solution that worked for me: First I disabled windows update, then opened a command prompt (right click cmd and run as administrator) and typed NET STOP WUAUSERV and hit return. It may say updates disabled if it returns "cannot..." just restart windows. I think this solved it, however I did also update a driver so that may have helped too. One other issue I found (I upgraded 2 machines) was a freeze at 40% installation that too got solved, this time just uninstall .net framework.
Hope this info gets to those who need it

It has been 10 hours since I started the download. I set the computer power settings to "Never" shut down and went to bed last night after 2 hours of downloading and still ~10% to go. 8 hours later it looks like it is done downloading but stuck on "Preparing for the upgrade". I'm hoping that the end of July 29th in the middle of my download hasn't screwed it up.

Re: Windows 10 stuck on "preparing for the upgrade"

Simple solution: Clean install W10, use W7/8 key (or uefi firmware will provide on newer OEM builds). Job done. MS put this in because the upgrade install only occasionally works.
