Windows Phone 8.1 StartScreen Customization

I quite like what was shown on the video, however I am not too sure about the number of tiles which don't represent a "window", thus not showing a part of the image.

There's people with senseless complains OMG the OS is good as it is. You can't expect them to include everything in a single release. BTW 8.1 will not be the last version of Windows Phone. I am utterly sure that we will have custom backgrounds in the future but not right now.

I bet you they're saving this for Windows 8.5 like they always do.

Parallax scrolling is changing my mind.. I'm liking it.. Selecting solid color pic or nice textured wallpaper would make my start screen look awesome

It's either tilegrounds or backgrounds. They cannot coexist, imagine how tacky it would look.

And I prefer tilegrounds by a mile, how can you see the background if it's covered by tiles anyway? Especially if the phone is not a 5 incher and/or 3 rows are used

What if you had this + the option to give the background more colours other than black or white?

I don't think I will use anything else than white. Need to see how it looks with skinned tiles, but I think it's awesome.

Well I wanted background image instead, but with this parallax effect, it looks good.
One thing annoys me: the inconsistency with windows 8.1. I want this parallax see-throught tilesystem in win8.1 too then.

Yeah... that'll make them change their minds. One never knows though, they may still add that as an option. There is still a ton of Dev work to be done. I doubt it, but, again, one never knows.

I think we need more options for customizing our start screens than we have currently. I'm looking forward to see what we end up with. I see nothing bad about being able to change the background color from the boring black and white choice we have now.
I'm hoping for three things for our home screen options Change the background(underlying)wallpaper and get colors besides the black/white we have now.
Have the option to put any background we choose, like a pic or artwork.
Be able to change tile colors or make them transparent.
I'll be happy with these, anything else for home screens would be gravy. Imagine someone at a party showing off his custom , hot looking home screen. That's a wp? No F'in way ! I had no idea you could use your own pics and different colors for the home screen! Great PR for the phones. Instead of yawn,wp, huh? Pretty bland looking.
FWIW: android has several wp launchers that have these options and more. I find it somewhat amusing that android can offer more options for their wp home screen launchers than MS does. I know MS originally touted their new wp's when they first came out as having what we needed in a simple operating system and user interface. But, if they want to compete and get new customers and retain old ones they need to offer more customizations. I'm a new customer with an icon. I like what I see and how it works, but one needs options to be able to change things up once in a while to keep it from becoming mundane. Two themes, black or white? Come on, give us more choices. The icons are getting boring, Plain white icons? How about the ability to change the icon color? Here's an idea, how about we use our own? Or a fav pic? OK, to much to fast. Lets see what 8.1 brings then.

Honestly, the "tilegrounds" as used above, is fantastic. I really don't think a background IMAGE would do it justice. However, I am in FULL agreement that we should get more colors than Black and White.
