Windows phone 8 sms to/from windows 8.1 laptop

I have been enjoying the switch to windows 8 phone for last few weeks. One feature that I would really like to see offered either by a plugin or native feature is the ability to send and receive sms text messages from the laptop/desktop environment. I would even accept it to require the phone to be on same wifi network or even bluetooth but this would be awesome to have. Anyone know of something like this in the works? I know when I was on android there were some apps that you could install that would do this for you when your phone and computer were on the same wifi network.

There was a very brief rumor of such a thing coming to WP/Windows 8, but nothing has materialized so far.
