The next iteration will be 8.5 which will have another 18 month support cycle and current WP 8 devices will get the 8.5 upgrade. Just like WP 7.5 got the 7.8 upgrade

my Titan 2 has yet to receive the 7.8 update, my mom's Lumia 710 will not get the 7.8 update.... So I wouldn't count on wp8 getting an update.

Firstly, the 7.8 update was pulled then re-released so the roll out is still ongoing. Secondly, why won't your mom's 710 get the 7.8 update? Lastly, WP 8 will get another major update to 8.5 (Blue) and another one to WP 9.

ranjeet singh just quit programming for WP8, that will fix your problem. Since you are thinking this way, what's the point

If his mother's Lumia 710 is on T-Mobile USA, then he's correct. T-Mo USA said they'll not be approving the WP 7.8 update.

I work with a guy who's based in India and he uses the word "doubt" instead of "question".

I think it's fair the OP has a question about ongoing support for the platform and whether to invest into it long term, and would recommend he stays with it as all current WP8 devices should be upgradeable to the next OS release.
