windows phone 8 system data usage

I have a lumia 920 with fido, data sense "system" category uses 1-2 mb every night and sometimes during daytime. Every month it adds up to 200-300 mb, location services, feedback, etc is all turned off. Anybody know what "system" is?

Would spotty coverage use more data while trying to reconnect?

Strange. Strange indeed. Aside from (not) updating your phone, what do you do on your phone? Perhaps we might be able to single out a reason.

Wait a moment. Could you try to turn off cellular data and check back if nothing happened?

It may have been a spotty connection.

Hey... My WiFi is not working properly sometimes it shows reading backwards like as I use data the data collector shows decrease instead of increase

Data is off when I have wifi on, but system uses wifi internet to do something.

For the most part internet use rate is not consistent. Some days system can use nothing, other days it can use a few megs. Yesterday it used 5-6 megs

Just to clarify, when wifi is on "system" uses wifi internet, when data is on it uses data internet. I read that whatsapp uses Microsoft servers for its push notifications, maybe that contributes.

Here is a screenshot, however it has been cleared recently since I reinstalled my phone on sunday, but in just a few days system managed to use 27mb of wifi internet and 2 mb data (I didn't have data on for long, just during commute to/from work)

K really weird! I think data sense may be bugged. I kept my wifi off today and data on just to verify if maybe over wifi it would use more internet than on data and this is what happens. THE STATS ON WIFI INTERNET USE WENT DOWN 7 MB... WTF????

Vlad, did you say you reinstalled the phone and it didn't help? I have the same issue with system data usage (10mb a day) and consider resetting to factory settings too.

I am not sure, i re-installed my phone, now it uses 2 mb per day. I have friends with the same phone, however they have all the backups and skydrive etc.. turned on, and they use a LOT! Like a gb per month on wifi and 500 mb per month in data. It's very inconsistent! are all your backups off?

Today I noticed that 6 snap app uses system data, which is weird since it has its own category in data sense

I just notice when i saw this thread that system using a lot of data
I don't know what it uses the data for. But my location and feedback was on
It only 12 days and the system has been using 23 mb cell data and 90mb wifi data
It almost 10mb perday
Do location and feedback using that much data?
I browse the web and using nokia mix radio a lot. But they have their own section on data sense

Well today I figured out that apps that have their own category may still be in the system category (6 snap is the app I noticed it with) but yes location does use data, your radio app may or may not. Why do you bother keeping feedback on? Try turning that stuff off and see if it makes a difference. Lately I've been using 2 mb per day, today when using 6 snap I used a lot more

I don't know why i turn feedback on. Maybe to help MS make better product?
I do as your suggestion and turn feedback off. Just location on
And the data usage down to only 2mb yesterday

Yeah that makes more sense. Mine is at 2 per day now unless I use snapchat and gps
