I would just like to say that it was a standup thing for Microsoft to announce to it's customers, here in June, that the 7 phones will never be able to run 8. They did this knowing that it will kill 7 phone sales and probably bankrupt Nokia. They wanted to be honest to their customers.

Apple would never have done this until the last minute in order to soak the last dime out of their loyal customers.

This is true, but current WPs will be receiving WP7.8, which will be an update that includes everything from WP8 that the current hardware will will allow. i.e. you'll get the new Start screen but you won't get a better processor.
