Windows Phone doesn't support files sharing through Wi-Fi

There is the app ativ beam that is only available for samsung phone though. The app description states it's compatible with all android handsets. It's basically the wifi direct feature that the OP asked about. Unfortunatly its for samsung phones only.

ATIV Beam | Windows Phone Apps+Games Store (United States)

installing ATIV Beam on a Lumia is not an issue. i think, it can be done as like other samsung apps we install on Lumia. but, does that support actual file transfer?

then use Bluetooth. Personally, I've seen that all my android using friends prefer onedrive and dropbox. No one uses WiFi direct because cloud sharing is a lot more convenient. If you want WiFi direct, at this point in time, go get yourself an android phone.

I don't know a single person who share files through Onedrive or dropbox.
Bluetooth is very slow and cloud sharing is even more slower for sharing data where as WiFi direct is the fastest and more convenient way to transfer.

I think this feature must be introduced in WP.

Can you post the procedure to install Samsung apps on Lumia. Or at least a link to the source on how to do it.

I really would like that particular option.

Thanks.

you can always use a computer... copy directly from phone to phone, well i dont see any other way to do it on wp for now

Looks like he never used wi-fi direct, otherwise he would have advocating this feature. Wi-Fi direct is awesome thing, WP 8. was supposed to get it but it didn't, may be in next update. I know patience is the legacy here for almost every feature but we got almost everything delivered and it increases my faith in this platform.

Easy Transfer is really good and works great on my WiFi at home.

The web interface even shows up in the PS3 browser and pictures can be viewed. For music and videos the PS3 browser generates an error.
Anyone have a clue if there is a fix for this?

So much confusion in this thread. Maybe this helps?

WiFi : connection between two phones or a phone and a router. Fast (~150 Mb/s).
Internet : connection between your router and the outside world. Generally slow (~10 Mb/s)

So, even if you could pump data into OneDrive at the maximum rate of your Internet connection (which is completely unrealistic), it is still way slower than having the two phones talk to each other directly using WiFi. And, with OneDrive the data have to make two trips instead of just one.

Even in windows it is possible to transfer GBs of data using EasyTransfer my friend.Make your mobile hotspot! and use:angel:
