I just got a 950 xl. Came from a 735. Love it so far. For a qi charger, can I use the same one I got a few years ago:?

Yeah, I'm using one I got with my Lumia 920 myself.

Yep, these all work, although most of the older ones push 0.5-1watt, maybe.
The newer ones (if you chose somewhat carefully) charge closer to 1.5, which is nice, given the size of the battery in the 950/XL.
Some have 2-3 loops too, also handy, as it's much easier to hit the "sweet spot" on the induction loop, again in terms of fast charging (or sometimes at all).

I have the charging stand and i have to place the phone sideways to charge. ALthough I am not sure it is charging fast enough.
