Woefully outdated Maps

Does anyone with an informed opinion have an idea if Microsoft has plans to bring their maps into the current decade? Satellite imagery for New York city (where I live) is more than ten. Years. Old. I otherwise (mostly) love this phone, and wp8, but do still find it quite ridiculous to have to use Google maps and ahem, Apple maps, (on my iPad) at this point for accurate imagery results. (I rely on these to be accurate when visiting different sites each day for work).

The OP showing HERE Maps on windows phone. So HERE Maps have this problem, not the official Bing Maps.

Also looks to be just on the phone. The Here maps Online has updated maps. So it looks like the offline maps that get downloaded to the phone may be the problem.

Maps are getting updated when you update to 8.1.
