WP 8.1 might come sooner that I thought

If they wait until the end of next year then they may as well skip 8.1 for the phone as everything else (tablets, netbooks, laptops, servers, desktops) will be staring down the barrel of Win9 by then. If MS really intend to join up the dots between the form factors as they state then they need to deal with this fragmentation at some point. Clearly the WP team are not getting all the memos. If MS can't keep Windows Phone in sync with the rest of their ecosystem then what chance do we users have? It's just like Skype all over again, with the WP team off following rainbows whilst everyone else gets on with constructing the Microsoft ecosystem. Heck, it's looking like even the Xbox will get standard Windows apps enabled on it before the phones do, and that's just a games console!

Unless they go 8.2... I don't see why everyone sees Microsoft making a jump to 9, then 10... But, none of us know, now, do we?

Just you wait...the secret to the universe and everything in life will be Windows Phone 42.

windows 8.1 is out...granted it is in the preview stage...but my understanding is there will be very little difference with the actual 8.1. The preview is working great on my computer...really like all the improvements

This thread is about Windows Phone 8.1, not Windows 8.1 :)

Just throwing this out there, what if they scrap GDR3 and roll it all into 8.1 launching this fall. At some point I read they were going to port a number of the features to GDR3 anyway, so why not delay a month or two and release the whole thing

This hopefully. Even if they don't include every feature of the orginal 8.1, it would be worth it for the namesake.

OK, so it is now July 25, 2014. I don't use the developer releases and am just a consumer, though technically adept. I cannot believe the ineptitude of Microsoft in rolling out an announcement (back in March 2014?) then showering us with announcements by e-mail and sending frequent invitations to upgrade, when in fact it is still not available to me through my carrier (AT&T). In years of using iPhones I never encountered something like this with Apple. I love the Lumia 1020 for its camera, but the rest of it is not so great, and while 8.1 would appear to fix a lot of that, c'mon, roll it out!
