I've spent over an hour looking and couldn't find it in any post. So sorry for the sticklers that'll say, "it's here in (x) thread." If I download 8.1 on my L820, can you toggle the virtual bar, or am I gonna be forced to use it, and have dead buttons on my phone?

I think the virtual button will be disabled in the dev preview..so far there ain't any WP8 without hardware button !!

Hardware keys will function for all phones

There are extra pixels for the bar in 630/635(480*854) instead of usual 480*800. I think 630's navigation bar occupies 480*54 pixels. Rest is for normal screen as usual. So if you have hardware buttons why would you decrease your screen size. Also Microsoft would not allow you to do that.

Hey, you are right. But the physical buttons on my phone has failed to work, and I update the OS to WP8.1 to try the virtual navigation bar. Surprisingly, there is no solution to enable the virtual navigation bar in the preview edition for developers. I want to know, could it be possibly enabled in next sub-version?

I don't think Microsoft would enable it for phones with physical buttons, there is no reason for them to enable it

Well, I don't think that is good choice to forbid virtual navigation bar for phones with physical one, since the virtual bar is good backup if the physical one breaks.
Of course they can disable the virtual navigation bar defaultly, but it seems stupid to forbid its evoking forever after long-term developement and advertisement.

Ok, I got you buddy. What you need to do is root your phone (kinda troublesome but worth it) and enable software navbar in the registry settings..that's all.

Attached the image to show it on my Lumia 925.
