Xbox and Bethesda are supposedly going to "shadow drop" an Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion remake — really?

This is how I've responded to the news. If true, it just doesn't make much good business sense. Oblivion is a staple RPG of the genre and due to both its fame and infamy it has penetrated into mainstream pop culture (everyone knows about the horse armor). Those leaks don't suggest a small port by any means too. It looks like what most would consider a AAA remake. For an Xbox that wants a consistent stream of releases, shadow dropping such a big game in such a busy month and not even tied to a direct or showcase just seems... dumb. Its a waste and frankly an insult to the importance of Oblivion. Like this game deserves a full marketing beat.

Another thing is that this would risk canabalizing upcoming day one releases like Expedition 33. An RPG game (albeit turn based to Oblivion's action combat) that's a new IP and from indie devs. I've already seen people on reddit and YouTube (so yes anecdotal evidence) saying they'll put Expedition 33, Towerborne, and finishing south of Midnight on the back burner if Oblivion Remake really drops this month. That's a good way to burn some bridges. And to hurt your own games (including Oblivion).

What would make sense to me is if they shadow dropped (though they really should've just announced and started marketing) an Oblivion Remake during the anniversary or even in March. But during one of the most socked times in GP... why? June is empty, they could make an announcement during Xbox's most watched showed in the hear and drop Oblivion then, maybe even with another TESVI teaser (if it's like a 2027 title). Who knows? It just doesn't add up to me that something this big shadow drops on a random day krb doesn't add up business wise to make, but Xbox has made worse business decisions in the past.
